The biggest platform in the category, and an F from the Better Business Bureau
6Degrees vs BoldTrail
BoldTrail is the biggest platform in US residential and there is a real product inside it. There is also this: its parent, Inside Real Estate, is not BBB accredited, carries an F rating, and has 89 complaints filed against it in three years. We read them. Almost all of them are about trying to leave.
The short answer
Pick BoldTrail if your brokerage already pays for it and you want one place for the website, the marketing and the leads. Pick 6Degrees if the record of who you introduced to whom should be yours rather than the brokerage’s, and read the BBB file either way. It is public.
Eight points, side by side
Checked 13 August 2026 against boldtrail.com, and the Better Business Bureau file for Inside Real Estate. These are the eight things 6Degrees is built to win, which is the honest way to read any vendor’s table: it is our axis, and you are allowed to decide it is the wrong one.
| What it does | 6Degrees | BoldTrail |
|---|---|---|
| Whose ledger it is | YesYours. It spans every agent and brokerage you refer to. | PartlyOften your brokerage’s, not yours. Ask who holds the contract before you fill it. |
| Timestamped lead registration | YesYes. The server sets the date. The client cannot. | NoNo referral object. Smart CRM tracks behaviour, not a claim. |
| Claim validity window | YesYes, where you want one. A booked showing extends it 30 days. | NoNo claim window is published. |
| Published tie-break rule | YesYes. First verified tag, and the buyer’s own confirmation outranks it. | NoNo published tie-break rule. |
| One ledger across every brokerage you work with | YesYes. Every referral you have sent or received, in one ledger. | NoNothing models an outside agent or a referral fee owed to you. |
| Server-dated interaction trail | YesYes. Create-only. Nobody can backdate or delete a call. | PartlyRich activity history, editable by a brokerage admin. |
| Evidence pack you can put in front of a broker | YesYes. One dated pack: terms, timestamp, confirmation, site visit, timeline. | NoNo. And if the brokerage holds the contract, the history is not yours to take. |
| Self-serve export and cancel | YesYes. CSV and JSON, any day, no ticket. | NoPrice is not published and the BBB file is largely about cancelling. Read it first. |
What BoldTrail does better
- 1/Scale. It is the most widely deployed platform in US residential and your brokerage may already pay for it.
- 2/IDX, a website, mass marketing, a lead pond and a smart CRM in one place, which is a genuine amount of product.
- 3/If your brokerage supplies it, your marginal cost is zero, and zero is hard to argue with.
- 4/The behavioural lead scoring is real and people who use it properly do get value from it.
What 6Degrees does that BoldTrail does not
- 1/The price is on the pricing page. BoldTrail has no published price at any tier.
- 2/Cancelling is a button in the product. That is a direct answer to the 89 complaints, and it is the reason this line is in our marketing at all.
- 3/Export runs any day, self-serve, in CSV and JSON. No ticket, no fee, no hourly charge.
- 4/When your brokerage holds the contract, the sphere you built is on their platform. Ours leaves with you, and that is a product decision before it is a legal one.
The thing both products are arguing about
A referral has a fee, a counterparty, a deadline and a rival. That makes it an object with a state machine, not a note on a contact. Once you accept that, the only remaining question is whose database the object lives in, and the answer decides who can still read it after you stop working with that brokerage.
